4AM Fórum pro architekturu a média ve spolupráci s Fakultou architektury VUT zve na 9denní audiovizuální workshop pod vedením studia Locument (Romea MuryńPL, Francisco LoboPT).
Kolaborativní audiovizuální projekt na pomezí dokumentu a videoeseje si klade za cíl koncepčně tematizovat několik rovin – společně s demolicí obchodního domu končí i určitá etapa modernistického plánování města, nenávratně mizí neopakovatelná materialita brutalismu a architektury 70. a 80. let 20. století, transformuje se způsob prodeje a s ním související nároky na obchodní prostory. Zatímco prodejní plochy obchodního centra se zatím snaží udržet krok s dobou, sklady a administrativní části jsou vyklizeny a připraveny na nevyhnutelný konec. I vzhledem k nepříznivým okolnostem to chápeme jako unikátní a zároveň poslední příležitost tuto přechodnou fázi v životě stavby zachytit. Vedle hlavního aktéra – budovy obchodního domu – je také v neposlední řadě sledovat všechny hybné síly na pozadí procesu demolice a proměny centra města.
Bývalý OD PRIOR, dnešní OC Dornych, představuje jednu z posledních brutalistních staveb stojících v těsné blízkosti historického centra Brna. Její osud ale sleduje “trend” architektury z druhé poloviny minulého století a totiž – je naplánována a schválena její demolice. Promrhaná šance města obchodní dům odkoupit a možnost důkladně promyslet budoucnost této strategické parcely znamená další generický developerský projekt polyfunkčního domu s kancelářemi. Kvality téměř intaktně dochované architektury z 80. let nám mizí pod rukama.

Locument je výzkumný ateliér, který propojuje filmařství s architekturou a městským výzkumem. Ve svých projektech používají architekturu a film jako analytické, kritické a subverzivní nástroje k zdůraznění současných problémů a jejich rozboru. Vidí důležitost pozorování rychle se měnících sociálních podmínek skrze vlivné faktory technologie, ekonomie, politiky a městského prostředí. Filmy Locumentu byly prezentovány mezinárodně na výstavách a filmových festivalech, jako je 15. mezinárodní architektonická výstava La Biennale di Venezia, 18. mezinárodní architektonická výstava La Biennale di Venezia v Itálii, 25. bienále designu v Ljubljaně ve Slovinsku, Arquiteturas Film Festival v Portugalsku a další… Spolupracovali s institucemi, jako je Katedra architektury na MIT, Fakulta architektury na Chulalongkorn University v INDA, Nikola-Lenivets Classroom a Polský svaz studentské architektury (OSSA).

PRIOR Audiovisual Workshop: The Final Moments of a Brutalist Department Store before Demolition.
4AM Forum for Architecture and Media, in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture VUT, cordially invites you to a 9-day audiovisual workshop led by the Locument studio (Romea MuryńPL, Francisco LoboPT).
This collaborative audiovisual project, situated on the border between documentary and video essay, aims to conceptually address several dimensions. Alongside the demolition of the department store, a certain era of modernist city planning comes to an end. The irreplaceable materiality of brutalism and the architecture of the 70s and 80s of the 20th century is vanishing irreversibly. The way of retail is undergoing transformation, along with related demands on commercial spaces. While the retail areas of the shopping center are trying to keep up with the times, the warehouses and administrative sections have been cleared out and prepared for their inevitable end. Despite unfavorable circumstances, we perceive this as a unique and final opportunity to capture this transitional phase in the building’s life. In addition to the main character – the department store building – it is also crucial to observe all the driving forces behind the process of demolition and the transformation of the city center.
The former PRIOR department store, now known as the Dornych Shopping Center, represents one of the last remaining brutalist structures situated in close proximity to the historic center of Brno. However, its fate aligns with the architectural “trend” of the latter half of the last century, as its demolition has been planned and approved. The missed opportunity for the city to acquire the department store and thoroughly contemplate the future of this strategic plot signifies yet another generic development project for a mixed-use building with offices. The qualities of the almost perfectly preserved architecture from the 1980s are slipping through our fingers.

Locument is a research studio that combines filmmaking with architecture and urban research. They use architecture and film as analytical, critical and subversive tools to emphasise contemporary issues and dissect their resolutions. They see the importance of observing rapidly changing social conditions through the influential factors of technology, economy, politics and urban environment. Locument’s movies have been screened internationally at exhibitions and film festivals such as – the 15th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, the 18th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, Italy; the 25th Biennial of Design Ljubljana, Slovenia; Arquiteturas Film Festival, Portugal; and others… They have collaborated with institutions such as MIT Architecture Department, INDA – Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Architecture, Nikola-Lenivets Classroom, OSSA – Polish Association of Architecture Students.
